Biography
Valérie Chane Tef, a multi-instrumentalist from Réunion Island, has established herself as an essential musician on the international music scene. Her work, a unique blend of modern sounds and traditional roots, transcends cultural boundaries and reaches an ever-growing audience.
Born on Réunion Island into a music-loving family, Valérie Chane Tef grew up surrounded by the rhythms of Maloya and Indian songs, while exploring contemporary styles such as Caribbean music, jazz and pop from an early age. This rich musical background enabled the pianist, singer and composer to develop an authentic artistic signature, connecting memory, identity and cultural diversity.
After studying ethnomusicology and attending the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, followed by several successful tours, Valérie released two critically acclaimed albums with AKODA, confirming her reputation as a visionary artist. Released by Aztec Musiques, Muzik pou lo Kèr (2019) and Nout Souk (2022) were both featured in playlists on RFI, FIP, France Inter, France musique and France Outre-mer.
Valérie’s collaborations with leading figures including Mino Cinélu (Miles Davis’s percussionist), Thierry Fanfant, Omar Lye Fook, Joby Valente, Diana Baroni, Dédé Saint-Prix, Géraldine Laurent, Ersoj Kasimov and others have enriched her musical world, demonstrating her ability to engage with a wide range of cultures while preserving her authenticity.
